Mr. Winkle Wakes

I watched a video about a man that woke up to a new generation that involved technology. Mr. Winkle awakes from a long period of time and heads to a local company office. Mr. Winkle becomes so distressed by the new forms of technology that he heads to a local hospital. Once Mr. Winkle arrives at the hospital, he becomes even more distressed and ill due to the use of machines that have been invented in order to prolong the life of the patients in the hospital. So, Mr. Winkle tries to think of a place that would not change in the 100 years that he has been sleeping. Mr. Winkle finds a local school and feels more at easy because he remembers this environment as a student. Also, Mr. Winkle is glad to see that the teacher is instructing while the students are listening and taking notes which reminds him of his youth. Also, Mr. Winkle sees that the classroom only has one computer at the very back of the classroom and is grateful to see that the dusty computer is not in use. Mr. Winkle finds that he prefers school over the office or hospital because the school comforts him by maintaining the old environment that he remembers and does not embrace the new technology that he fears.

I do not agree with Mr. Winkle's idea of teaching in our world. At first, I could see how comfortable teachers may be in the old ways of teaching, and I do think there are some techniques that every child should learn from the old forms of teaching. However, in today's world students need to be better equipped for the world that they will enter after they have completed their course of school. In watching the video, I was able to see how beneficial these technologies can be. In the case of the office, I can see how students will need to know how to use these different forms of technology in order for them to keep up with the new face paced job environment. Also, students should be allowed to use these technologies so they can one day use these technologies to save lives in the case of the hospital that Mr. Winkle visited. By allowing teachers to use these new technologies, students may one day grow up to invent their own technology tools in order to create new jobs or save lives of many people. I feel teachers should embrace these new technologies in order to give their students a better shot in life. The next generation or generations to come should be taught how to use these new technologies because they may be able to unlock and solve problems that plague our country today. I feel Mr. Winkle had the wrong mind set about technology because he could not see past the comfort of what he felt the world should look like. This enabled him to see the beauty that technology can bring to both teachers and students in order to improve the world around us. I feel every teacher around the world should be opened to using technology in their classroom in order to further student learning. By allowing teachers to be educated on these new technologies, teachers can unlock a new world in order to promote a better environment for students to connect and learn more efficiently.

21st Century Teachers

Today, I watched a video on "21st Century Teachers." The first video I watched was a song about how teachers needed to grow in order to prepare their students for the real world instead of for their classroom world. The song had a very positive message telling teachers to learn, so their students will want to learn as they are. Also, the song talked about how some schools blocked certain sites, and the students were unable to use these internet sites to further their leaning schools that will help them in the future. The second video I watched was entitled "A Vision of 21st Century Teachers." During this video, teachers held up cards with the positive effects that technology can have on a classroom environment. Also, the cards detailed how technology can benefit both teachers and students. The teachers continued to hold up cards in order to show that anyone can use technology in their classroom. The video showed that all teachers should be willing to learn new ideas about technology in order to use them in their classrooms. Also, the video showed that by becoming a 21st teacher a teacher should continue to grow and learn.
After watching these two videos, I am more excited about becoming a teacher. I believe that the videos show the positive effects that teachers can have on students by being a leading example. Both videos show that the students are more willing to learn as long as the teacher is. I hope to learn as much as I can in order to benefit my future students. I feel that it is my job to learn new techniques that can help any student in my classroom. I want my students to have every opportunity to further their skills in order to prepare them for the real world that they will face one day. I think a teacher should put forth the type of attitude that she/he would like to see from his/her students. This is why I feel teachers should keep learning because every student that comes into my classroom will be different. Each day I will try to learn something new that could benefit my classroom. I think once my future students see my attitude about education, than they will foster this attitude for themselves because they will know that someone truly cares about their education. Also, I think a teacher should never quit learning because there are so many new advancements in the teaching field that could help a struggling student. I remember being a struggling student in school, and I wish that my teachers would have furthered their learning in order to help me. I want to be a 21st teacher on my first day of school, so I am able to connect with my students and further their growth. This way my future students will be prepared for the issues that they will one day face in life.
